Fisher/Morris Productions presents: THE AVENUE

It was probably during the beginning of last semester that my two RTA grandkids Scott Fisher and Jake Morris approached me and asked me if I wanted to be part of their production team for a reality TV show called The Avenue. Now, being busy doing my own thing with Lovehard and Reality TV not really being up my alley, I declined but told them I would do everything in my capacity to support and push the show. I cannot tell you how proud I am to see this trailer and to see all their ideas and hard work come to fruition!! It makes me wish that I had said yes instead! In the words of the gorgeous redhead, Rachel, that you see in the trailer, This show looks so “legit!”

The things that come out of those darned RTA kids, I’m tellin ya. Tune in on January 25th for the premiere of The Avenue!

Now here’s the trailer, exclusively on Youtube star Gregory Gorgeous’ channel.
(Note: The trailer commences at 3 minutes!)

“House Party”: Lovehard x Supreme Team

“House Party” — Lovehard x Supreme Team from Char Loro on Vimeo.

Here is the final piece I handed in for my intermediate EFP class. Looking back on it now, it was such a great learning experience being able to put an entire production together. I definitely saw where I could’ve pushed the boundary more, where I had lots of difficulty, (for example, I’ll never cast a role for my cat ever again!) but all in all, it turned out pretty good and it made everybody in my class laugh. I’m looking forward to making more pieces and challenging myself to what else is possible. Again, MUCH thanks and love to my entire production crew, Supreme Team, and all the actors and extras. Oh, and thanks Ritchie for providing the soundtrack! All music (except for techno sequence) was produced by Rich Kidd.

Hope ya’ll get some sh*ts and giggles outta this!

The Love Affair: KG

After leading a workshop out at Kapisanan in Kensington Market, I left the freshly rained upon concrete in search for a place for food and comfort. Texting KG, the fourth artist who I had to do an artist profile on for The Love Affair, I hurried towards Spadina, the heart of Chinatown, with my mouth already watering for pork and dill dumplings.

The Love Affair: Smash Brovas

“We’re goin’ on the rooftop,” was all Junia said to me in a quick BBM as I biked my way towards the location we were meeting up. There are some people who just aren’t very explanatory via cellphone messaging means, and Junia is definitely one of them, lol. I arrived at the bottom of the apartment complex and grabbed an elevator heading towards the 6th floor. Already laughing as Junia let me into his friend Addy’s apartment, I saw him, Crooks, and Addy sprawled about the living room, lazin’ to whatever was playing on the flat screen TV.

My obsession with raising my roof top chillage count was upped not by just one roof, but one particular rooftop that had the illest patio and lounging furniture, with the view of the CN tower and Nathan Phillips directly in front of us.

TFHouse is on his way

[insert the char high-pitched squeal with tongue sticking out and eyes buggin HERE]

Teddy F House is on his way, folks, onto a path of self-discovery, success defined by his own terms, and an exploration of his art form. I love this human with so much of my heart and soul that every time I see his face, I want to bite his arm off and throw him into a den of five million Lucy Pearls (my crazy kitten) biting his skinny ankles. Teddy is just that type of guy who you vibe and click with instantly. I have shared TOO MANY laughs and great epic moments of conversation with him in the Granby Mansion. He is my family. Heck, he’s even been to Vancouver (without me) and stayed at my mother’s house and chilled with my brothers… he is tied to me for life. He and the rest of GMMF (Genius Money Making Fools, aka, my family) we all drive each other and inspire each other and push each other to pursue our dreams… the energy that comes out of each of us individually is amazing in itself… then you put that all together, it’s freaking super nova!!!

"The Opposite of No" – Lance Drummonds

Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Here it is, here it is, here it IS!!!! After… perhaps 6 re-edits, lol, for things as simple as “more gradual fade”, this video is done! I can’t say that the video is as good as the song itself, but let’s get real here, that’s just because it’s Lance Drummonds and he kills it on the keys and vocals. If anything, it’s HIM making ME look good and not the other way around.

If you’ve been following, you may have read my posts about my time in NYC a month or so ago [click here, here, and here] and that I went down there to film the talented and handsome r&b soul singer Lance Drummonds. I am so amped for him and the release of his new album Time and Space which drops on August 9th!! I’ve already heard it (holla at being special!) and I’m telling you folks… WE NEED TO GET HIM OUT HERE TO TORONTO FOR A SHOW!!!! We need us some Lance! So club and party promoters, please pay extra close attention, because if you see what I see in Lance, you’ll be saying one day, “We threw a show in Toronto for Lance Drummonds the year before he blew up.”

Effing. RIGHT.

"Blackberry Love" – David Delisca

David and I filmed this a little while back and after much debating whether it was good enough for the public eye, we finally settled on a happy medium. It’s called, “David-is-a-perfectionist-and-worries-too-much-that-his-sh*t-ain’t-gold-when-it-totally-is.” LOL. I loved working with this guy. David just has this aura about him that I find… well, quite calming. He speaks softly, but with so much intent. It’s a beautiful energy. One of the most memorable things he’s ever said, that he said to my room mate after her comment of being too fearful to share her writing to the public, was that “It’s selfish to not share your words. You’re holding back from someone else being able to learn from you, relate to you, be inspired by you…”

Yeah, that’s David Delisca. =)

Without further ado, this poem goes out to all those who are/have been part of the Blackberry Nation... maybe you can feel David on this one.

Enjoy!

Give my hometown some props…

[a young 17 yr old Donnel and 18 yr old… blonde… Char, lol]

I woke up this morning to find this latest post in my RSS feed. My homie Donnel Barroso at one point in time was like a baby brother to me. We met years back during the days I did my time in the young filipino church community, and there was definitely a period in which we hung out every weekend. It was the Poco boys, the New West boys, and my inseparable Ayo girls. Numerous amounts of All-You-Can-Eat Richmond Sushi, bubble tea runs, and coolin’ out at my house laughin’ bout who knows what. … I miss those days. Heck, I even had Donnel hired at Starbucks on Granville and Georgia and we played off this story (that changed several times) about how we were blood brother-sister and we had… same dads, different moms? The story got more intricate every time, but it was a hoot n’ a half to play with people’s heads.

Christopher Lee Sauvé + lovehard

As previously mentioned in one of the posts [click here, if you missed it] I wrote about my time in NYC a few weeks ago, I did an impromptu video shoot with the delightful Chris Sauvé of Christopher Lee Sauvé T-Shirt Collection. A fellow Vancouver native AND alumni to my very own high school (Windermere, east van, WHUUUTT!), Chris moved out to NYC after graduating from Emily Carr for Graphic design. He and I vibed on that reeealll tip, and it only made sense after discovering our shared humble beginnings, where that soul connection came from. Check out his designs on his website, and support Canadian designers!

It was so awesome being able to work with him because he’s the type of dude who really goes with the flow and moves on the fly. It was definitely a collaboration that must be done more than once. I’d also like to give a shout out to Gibran Ramos of Mad Maus who edited my footage. It looks pretty ill, might I say.

Here it is, folks. Enjoy!
