Yaggaaaa! Caribana Weekend is quickly approaching and I don’t know about you, but my weekend is full to the brim with festivities. Most nights jam packed with 2 parties in one evening! You know I get it iiiinnnnnn. Speaking of parties you should partake in, Sunday night, July 31st, my family Wan Luv and Jesse Ohtake (of The Main Ingredient) along with some other promoters are putting together BODYROCK. The last time I hit up this jam was last summer… and needless to say, I did get rocked. (Ask me what I mean by this in person, Lol.)

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since Ritchie’s craaaaazyyy WOSRKS4 release party last year. Too many insane artists on stage, the release of his first music video for track ‘Take It Slow’, and of course, Rich Kidd himself, wylin’ out in the crowd and runnin’ down the bar. If there’s anything you need to know about Toronto’s favorite producer/emcee, he puts on one heck of a show.

Tonight at The Drake! You’ve heard me post about them before, but now you can see them live at their own concert celebrating their album release: Soul Custody Vol. 1. I have had all these songs on repeat. I am so ready to rock out tonight! Doors open at 9pm. Show starts promptly at 9:30pm. $10 bones only. These guys fuse the sounds of hip hop, future funk, neo soul, dub step and many other influences. I can’t even describe to you what they’re like, you just gotta come see for yourself! I’m BACK! And gettin’ right into the full swing of my life in Toronto. Honestly… it feels so frickin’ good to be home. Vancity was the best trip home I’ve had out of all my visits… I was too spoiled and too blessed with love overload. You get what you give, right? Word up.

It’s Wednesday and there’s more to celebrate other than humping. My peoples SOUL CUSTODY, aka Damian, Lady Shabaz, and Apollo Creed are finally releasing their album that they’ve been working on all year. I’ve heard it multiple times, I’ve listened to them practice, and I can’t tell you enough how freaking talented these guys are. Damian’s creative and original production, Allie’s ridiculously buttery voice, Apollo’s dirty sound when he spits… really REALLY something you’ve never heard and will love, if you appreciate good music.

Too many tings goin down this weekend, what with NXNE and the MMVA‘s hitting Toronto. But let’s get real here, ya’ll wanna dance? LET’S BOOGIE. A couple of months ago, my dude DJ Nana hit me up and asked me to be part of a very special weekend — Maureen ‘Ma Dukes’ Yancey, aka J Dilla’s mom, was coming down to Toronto for the first time and would be screening Suite For Ma Dukes. [For previous blog post, click HERE.]

A short film about an incredible composer who took Dilla’s most beloved hits, this man had an orchestra perform them, alongside some of our favorites: Common, Bilal, D’Angelo, and more.

Tomorrow is a special art showcase where all our footage and photos that we documented during that weekend, will be on display, a collaboration of other artists who have re-worked our pieces.

**Update: I will be working at RapCity tomorrow night for the opening reception party, BUT I will be there afterwards for the after party endeavors!  The exhibit will be running on Friday and Saturday as well. For full facebook details, click HERE.

Yagga yagga yagga. I know I’ve been absent but I promise you I haven’t been slacking. Char’s gettin’ her actress on! Starting tomorrow, I’ve got two performances in the play titled Tempting Remo, which was written by Jo SiMalaya Alcampo, Myk Miranda, Arlene Paculan, and Flerida Pena. The all star cast for this play reading includes Christine Mangosing, Ben Brilliante, Regina Simon, and Cole Alvis. Tomorrow at 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm, all being held at the Theatre Centre, Queen and Dovercourt. Tickets are $15. I’d love for you to come watch!
