Recap: OUTRO SUPERIOR – TFHOUSE

[TFHOUSE at his last show of 2011. Sneaky Dees, if you were there, youuu knowwwww]

What a frickin’ year for TFHOUSE and the DSTRY team. We went from Teddy’s show at Nocturne where he performed hits from his On My Way mixtape, to Teddy opening up for MacMiller in July for like 5000 people, to Teddy opening up for Wiz Khalifa on September, then The Weeknd in London, ON, and then him closing off the year with his show OUTRO SUPERIOR at Sneaky Dee’s. What an amazing run!! I couldn’t be more proud of the fam, especially my sister Beetle Brit, aka April Management — TFHOUSE’s manager. They really did the ground work this year in order to prep themselves for what’s to come in 2012… and if my intuition is correct, it’s about to get reeeaaallll hectic.

Carmela Antonio Sessions: “Blindside”

[Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Carmela Antonio]

At the beginning of this summer, my homegirl Carmela approached me to work on a series of videos helping her promote the release of her ‘Paper Dolls‘ EP. Inspired by the intimate and inviting space of her bachelorette apartment, we decided to do these acoustic takeaway shows (with Oscar Dominguez on percussion!) at her home, with a full audio recording studio set up. Collaborating with audio engineers Max and Rob, and the editing savvy of my good friend Justin Borja of Black Suits & Broken Hearts, we came up with the Carmela Antonio Sessions. Welcome to the first video we’ll be releasing: “Blindside”. Consider this a very Happy Birthday greeting, from all of us;)

The Wonder Year

Yesterday, my boys Mark Valino and Giles Monette from A.H.R. Films (Art. Honor.Respect) invited me to be their second camera for an interview with 9th Wonder before the screening of his autobiographical documentary called The Wonder Year. After meeting 9th, watching his film, and taking part in his Q&A, my respect for him as a producer, a musician, and as a human being, skyrocketed to the levels of ‘ULTIMATE respect.’

Recap: We On Some Rich Kidd Shiiiiiiiit 5

A whole new line up of performers and the release of Ritchie’s latest mixtape. Held at Revival, Ritchie held it down as per usual on the mic, jumping into the crowd and waving his towel around and sweating on everyone. God, I love the Kidd. Check below for the polaroid recap photos!

Lovehard presents: ODDISEE

“I go by the name of ODDISEE,” a deep voice with what sounded like a southern accent proclaimed over the mic. Of course, to any Canadian, a voice with that type of American drawl would be easily categorized under the big banner of “Southern Accent”, much like Canadians have an “accent” of politeness or “Eh”.  I soon stood corrected that this cadent voice was genuinely and authentically from the one and only Washington, DC.

From start to finish, I went from intrigue to mesmerized, to trying to tell my fatigued body I should head home early to rest, only to be sidetracked and charmed once again by Oddisee’s story told through his dynamic beats and thought-provoking rhymes. He tickled my ears with the sounds of soul, bass heavy funk, hip-hop, bossa nova and more. Leaving before his set was over soon became a non-existent option. Especially after Shad got invited up to perform an unreleased song with him.
