Steppin’ Out by DJ MENSA x DJ ROYALE

Yeeeeeeuppp. You know how my ears love me some Mensa and Royale. Two of some high-rated, and highly respected DJ’s in this city. The concept of this mixtape I couldn’t love more — creative cats who like to give you more than you’re average joe “old school mix”.

Lovehard presents LINCOLN BLACHE

[inspired by one of my fave photographers — Angie Choi,I spent the last 2 hours playing on photoshop with Lincoln’s photos]

About a month ago, I received an email from a woman named Sharob who asked me if I was interested in doing some viral marketing videos for an artist she managed named Lincoln Blache. At the time, I was swamped with a 6 course load of school work and really wasn’t looking into taking on too many Lovehard projects. To be completely honest, I was preettyyy sure I was going to say no, but one rule of business I made for myself is that I never want to give a solid No until I am able to meet an artist and make a connection with them. I’m a strong believer that if real connections are established, it’s only a matter of time before they’re able to strengthen.

TFHouse at Nocturne TOMORROW!

TFHouse, aka one of my most beloved friends, a huge support to me and someone I believe in to no end, has a show tomorrow at Nocturne on Queen West. He’ll be performing his songs from his mixtape he released last summer — On My Way, as well as give you a few sneak peak tracks from his upcoming album — Superior Taste. I’ve heard these songs from when they were just lyrics on Text Edit straight to rough cuts and full production…. MAN, Teddy has just grown exponentially over the last couple of months — as a producer, rapper, and even as my best friend. LOL. After 2 crashed hard drives, a stolen identity, and lots of crazy ish he’s had to jump over in order to get where he is right now, all I can say is, the Man breaks through brick walls. Unstoppable.

Reach tomorrow night!

Valentines Re-Gift: Arowbe x Rich Kidd

[Artwork by Original Fiddy]

I received a lovely link early this afternoon from my good peoples Arowbe, with a track he just released today that he did with Rich Kidd, also guest featuring vocals by Lizzie Nightingale. My first reaction was, “uhh YOU HAVE A SONG WITH RITCHIE? Pass that sh*t” Followed after with, “I WISH SOMEONE THOUGHT I WAS THE COOLEST GIRL IN SCHOOL!!” His response: “Ya never know, plenty of shy boys out there.” Hahahah.

Needless to say, this song is totally feel good vibes, with many references to high school tings I grew up with. Moesha and the Parkers! Lol. This song shall be on repeat for me today… So, from me to you, A Valentines Day Re-Gift from Arowbe and Rich Kidd, Here’s “Coolest Girl.”

Arowbe & Rich Kidd – Coolest Girl by Arowbe

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Headspace.

There’s nothing more that I love than receiving wonderful little presents in my facebook inbox. I’ve had this mixtape on repeat for the past two days, c/o of my girl DJ L’Oqenz, entitled HEADSPACE. Last night she also threw down a jam in lieu of the new mixtape, and lemme tell you, it was one of those unexpected ill vibe parties that you either catch by chance, or you miss out!  Hosted by one of my most favorite soul singers in this city and a dear friend of mine, Tanika Charles was goin offffffffff on the mic!! Lol.

RECAP: Soul Custody Listening Party

[Damian of Modern Artifacts/Soul Custody on the decks]

A week ago was the listening party of my dear amigos also known as Soul Custody (Check blog post HERE.). Held at our favorite Tuesday night spot, Andy’s Poolhall on College St, Damian threw down their unheard tracks and let the crowd vibe off his stupid stupid stupid beats. When I heard MA CHUNE I went nuts, gats up in the air yelling at Allie, “BIIIG chune!! Pull up! Pull up!” Needless to say it was a great night! All of our friends there dancing up a storm, Troy winning the Beats by Dre Headphones… and a whole lot of jealousy on my part after that. LOL.

Can’t wait for when they start performing liiiiive!!

Here are the flicks of that night:

Ron Dias: Way Past Love

Last Monday a homie of mine, Ron Dias, dropped his much anticipated mixtape entitled “Way Past Love”. You may remember him from a previous blog post I did for the Love Affair that happened back in August of this year. (Click HERE for the post). In lieu of his mixtape release, Ron put on quite an impressive concert despite the snowy streets flurrying in on a Monday evening. His live band backing him up was on point! And I really loved the line up of performers that guest starred for the evening — especially Shi Wisdom, Wolf J McFarlane, KJ, O’Sound, and of course Rich Kidd.

To check out Way Past Love, check it HERE.

Here are some flicks of his concert:

The Main Ingredient: BILAL

[Bilal in all his glory.]

Oooh, oooh! It’s still ringing in my ears! Despite my womanly stomach cramps, I could not leave the presence of this incredible voice. Unmatchable. Bilal, live, was too good to be true. And what a HILARIOUS m’fcka is THIS guy cussing like a sailor on stage and calling everybody out. I loved it! I love when people have such stage character and presence. It makes the show THAT much more good. Bilal played all our favorites but man, when ‘Sometimes’ came on, yeeeaaahhh… Brought the house down. !!!!!

Thank you so much for your wonderful energy and sharing the gift of your sexy. ass. voice, Bilal. You are welcome to Toronto aaaaaannnnyyy frickin’ time (so long as I’m there).  Lol. It’s really too bad you had to dip early because I was supposed to interview you for this blog. Ah well, there will be a next time! Either way, really and truly, Toronto is so glad you’re better.

What’s GOOD in the Hood?

And so Winter  break commences! Classes are over but exams are upon me. Thankfully I’ve only got two and they’re soft tings (or so I think, lol). Plans for the winter holiday? Weelllps… I’m sure not going home to Vancouver for Christmas, sigh, which is okay with me considering I picked up a winter seasonal job and making some mad coin right now is my first priority… To be completely frank, I want take this time to really rejuvenate and get some personal projects done. They’ve been sitting on the back burner for a minute now and we all know that never feels too good to have things looming! Other than that, a whole crap load of events are hitting my agenda and it’s that time of year in Toronto that even though snow and cold likes to taunt us… we just retaliate by partying even harder!

Here’s a roll call of  the events gwannin’ this week, in case ya’ll are experiencing some cabin fever and need to get out! Check:
