RECAP: Soul Custody Listening Party

[Damian of Modern Artifacts/Soul Custody on the decks]

A week ago was the listening party of my dear amigos also known as Soul Custody (Check blog post HERE.). Held at our favorite Tuesday night spot, Andy’s Poolhall on College St, Damian threw down their unheard tracks and let the crowd vibe off his stupid stupid stupid beats. When I heard MA CHUNE I went nuts, gats up in the air yelling at Allie, “BIIIG chune!! Pull up! Pull up!” Needless to say it was a great night! All of our friends there dancing up a storm, Troy winning the Beats by Dre Headphones… and a whole lot of jealousy on my part after that. LOL.

Can’t wait for when they start performing liiiiive!!

Here are the flicks of that night:

Ron Dias: Way Past Love

Last Monday a homie of mine, Ron Dias, dropped his much anticipated mixtape entitled “Way Past Love”. You may remember him from a previous blog post I did for the Love Affair that happened back in August of this year. (Click HERE for the post). In lieu of his mixtape release, Ron put on quite an impressive concert despite the snowy streets flurrying in on a Monday evening. His live band backing him up was on point! And I really loved the line up of performers that guest starred for the evening — especially Shi Wisdom, Wolf J McFarlane, KJ, O’Sound, and of course Rich Kidd.

To check out Way Past Love, check it HERE.

Here are some flicks of his concert:

The BEST House Party… EVVAAAA!!

[Jeremy Glenn having the time of his lifeeeee]

Tis the season folks.
It’s cold, sometimes snowy, and this desire to get intimate and spend quality time with the ones we love is even stronger this time of the year. So let’s bust out those infamous red Dixie cups, get some liqueur a pourin’, and crank those chunes just a few decibels higher.
Get ready for a string of various house jam photos taken of this wonderful 2010 winter season.

DAMIAN’S 2ND ANNUAL BIRTHDAY/HOUSE PARTY:
3 floors. 1st floor — chill spot. 2nd floor — Hip Hop room. 3rd floor — House room.
Till 7 in the morning.
YUP.

The Main Ingredient: BILAL

[Bilal in all his glory.]

Oooh, oooh! It’s still ringing in my ears! Despite my womanly stomach cramps, I could not leave the presence of this incredible voice. Unmatchable. Bilal, live, was too good to be true. And what a HILARIOUS m’fcka is THIS guy cussing like a sailor on stage and calling everybody out. I loved it! I love when people have such stage character and presence. It makes the show THAT much more good. Bilal played all our favorites but man, when ‘Sometimes’ came on, yeeeaaahhh… Brought the house down. !!!!!

Thank you so much for your wonderful energy and sharing the gift of your sexy. ass. voice, Bilal. You are welcome to Toronto aaaaaannnnyyy frickin’ time (so long as I’m there).  Lol. It’s really too bad you had to dip early because I was supposed to interview you for this blog. Ah well, there will be a next time! Either way, really and truly, Toronto is so glad you’re better.

What’s GOOD in the Hood?

And so Winter  break commences! Classes are over but exams are upon me. Thankfully I’ve only got two and they’re soft tings (or so I think, lol). Plans for the winter holiday? Weelllps… I’m sure not going home to Vancouver for Christmas, sigh, which is okay with me considering I picked up a winter seasonal job and making some mad coin right now is my first priority… To be completely frank, I want take this time to really rejuvenate and get some personal projects done. They’ve been sitting on the back burner for a minute now and we all know that never feels too good to have things looming! Other than that, a whole crap load of events are hitting my agenda and it’s that time of year in Toronto that even though snow and cold likes to taunt us… we just retaliate by partying even harder!

Here’s a roll call of  the events gwannin’ this week, in case ya’ll are experiencing some cabin fever and need to get out! Check:

Untitled thought #42

— Sometimes you gotta remind yourself that you’re just you. As extraordinary of an individual you are, be a little giving to your mistakes, your humanness, your ability to screw up and be wrong. Humility is difficult, but your pride only hurt the people you loved the most. We’re all just ordinary people, we don’t know which way to go… because we’re ordinary people… maybe we should take it slow.

Soul Custody

[birthday girl Allie at her dance party]

Trying to catch the attention of the second cutest (sorry, I’m biased to Lucy Pearl) kitty in the world, I sat comfortably in Allie and Evanna’s living room as little Lola played with my necklace. “You better be coming to our listening party on the 7th, Char!” Said Allie, getting up from her seat to change the track on her iPhone. I gave her a sassy look of “Uhhh, OBVIOUSLY. And I’ll be there with my camera,” I retorted back to her. Hair almost as full of life as Allie herself, the petite, beautiful light-skinned woman I came to know this past summer epitomizes what a soul connection is. Extremely talented dancer, singer, gymnast and super sweet human of LIFE, Allie is a fellow cancer who vibes my vibes and I am always excited to see at any gathering.

MEC Anniversary: Chocolate Factory Jam

[Assault unable to decide which color cup to drink out of. LOL]

And the good vibes continued… an impromptu house jam at the Chocolate Factory was what we were all sayin’ on Sunday night. With visitors still kickin it in TO from Puerto Rico, Winnipeg and Montreal, it was more than enough of a reason to have everyone come together. Not too many flicks of this night, probably because I was kickin’ off my shoes and takin’ a laxer dazy from the crazy weekend, but regardless, here they are:

MEC Anniversary DAY 2: Bring Da Ruckus

Day 2 of the MEC 11 Year anniversary was even crazier than the exhibition battles that took place the night before. Held at OCAD, there were some pretty heaty battles, especially the one between Montreal and Puerto Rico. I died of laughter seeing them get worked up saying sh*t in spanish/french to each other. It was all love at the end, but maaaaannn were they both busting out craziness I’ve never seen before.

Shouts to Ground Illusionz who took home the title and cash prize that day, just like they did ten years ago at the first Bring Da Ruckus, different generation. WORD Up!

Here are the flicks from that day:
